What’s the maximum stencil size?

Our maximum size per sheet is 24x36”, if you need a stencil larger we can create your stencil over multiple sheets that you would piece together when painting. Contact us for a quote for this.

What type of stencil customizations can I order?

Aside from the size of your custom stencil you have creative freedom to choose a design - Logo, image, or text, the choice is yours. Our team will work with you to create a work-able custom stencil and provide suggestions for the best end-product. We will email you a mockup after you order for your approval.

So how do you clean your custom stencils?

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR STENCIL:

✔ If you clean your stencils right away and don't use permanent paint, you may be able to use warm soapy water to clean them off (depending on what kind of paint you use). But you will probably need to use PAINT THINNER to clean paint off a stencil.

✔ Lay stencils flat, and scrub gently, cleaning both sides. Be careful not to bend back any pointy parts or tear the delicate, small bridges. If something does tear, you can repair with scotch tape on both sides.

✔ You can dip a paper towel in mineral spirits and dab as well.

✔ For super stubborn paint, or paint that has been allowed to dry, use one of the below cleaning agents, and wrap stencil in a garbage bag for 20 minutes allowing it to soak. (or a ziplock bag if small enough)

✔ For cleaners, you can use "Krud Kutter", Dawn's Power Dissolver, Lift Off Latex Paint Remover, Mineral Spirits or low-odor turpentine, carefully with denatured alcohol, acetone or a similar product.

How often can I use my stencil? Is it reusable? How long will a custom laser cut stencil last?

Yes, as long as you take care of it and clean it properly, this stencil can be reused dozens to hundreds of times as long as it is taken care of properly and cleaned.

What changes do you need to make to my logo to make it work as a stencil?

We add bridges to "doughnut" holes so they don't fall out. See this page for example.

**IMPORTANT:** Your logo or text will probably need to be modified with added bridges so please review this information to ensure you understand that bridges will be added so the insides don't fall out. Your mockup will be coming soon so you can approve your stencil.

(adding bridges, removing elements, ensuring there are no areas that are too small or too large, all while maintaining stencil structure integrity and focusing on keeping your artwork as true to original look as possible)

How to use my stencil?

The first step in using any material stencil is to check and make sure your work area is clean and dry. 

Ensure your stencil is securely placed and flush or level and even with your surface of choice. This is especially important for high-traffic areas that will require more than one coat of paint.

For spray paint: Hold the can approximately 8-10 inches away from the stencil and gently wave from side to side for an even coating. This method prevents the paint from building up on the edges of the stencil and running beneath.

Multiple lighter coats are better than thicker coats.

For liquid paint on a roller: Make sure to use a high-density foam roller. These are specifically designed to hold less paint which allows you to apply an even coating.

How do you use adhesive backed stencils?

The adhesive backed stencil material is multi use, and can be used multiple times depending on how clean the surface is. As it picks up small particles it will loose some tackiness. It is safe for most applications, but test first on sensitive surfaces like painted or stained wood.

How to Choose a Stencil Material?

You may be surprised to learn that there are different materials available for custom-cut stencils. Not just materials, but thickness and sizes as well.

When choosing a stencil material, it helps to first understand the surface you are working with.

Are you working with:

  • Concrete / Asphalt?

So how do you CLEAN YOUR CUSTOM STENCILS?
It is a good idea to keep your custom made stencils clean for a few reasons, 1) if your stencil is translucent, keeping it clean helps you see what is behind it when lining up, 2) excessive buildup of paint can cause drag on your brush or cause inconsistencies in spray painting and 3) if doing a multi-overlay stencil, accurate registration is key and buildup of paint can make that more difficult.

Our mylar stencils are easy to use, easy to keep clean and can be reused many times.

HOW DETAILED CAN I GET WITH MY CUSTOM STENCIL?

Our expert technicians manufacture stencils using lasers that are super precise and accurate, meaning we can get very detailed! However everything has its limitations, and we recommend no elements or gaps less than .05" for best results. Very fine details will look great when spray painted, but can break very easy as they can become fragile.
