What's the difference in sand carving and sand blasting? To an extent, it is just different terminology for the same thing. Taken to a deeper level, when "blasting" or just etching the surface of glass, ceramic, stone, crystal, or another substrate, abrasive (sand) is blasted at the glass fairly lightly, which "frosts" the surface, turning it white.

Sand carving refers to the method and art of skillfully reproducing artwork onto a substrate (like glass) in varying depths, or shades, and various cutting angles, to create a "3d" image that looks beautiful on its own, or can be complimented with lighting effects such as edge lighting.
