Will magnetic stencils stick to any metal surface?

Magnetic stencils will only adhere to ferromagnetic surfaces , such as steel or iron. They will not stick to aluminum, copper, stainless steel (most types), or painted metal unless those surfaces have a magnetic layer underneath. Always test with a magnet before buying if you want to be sure. Dumpsters, tools are often magnetic.

Are magnetic stencils reusable, and how long do they last?

Magnetic stencils are reusable for light-duty applications, but they can tear or crease under pressure - especially during repeated use or on rough surfaces or with cuts with small bridges. For more durability and longevity, we recommend choosing custom Mylar film stencils or custom cut metal stencils , which hold up better over time.

What surfaces are compatible with magnetic stencils?

Magnetic stencils work best on flat, clean ferrous surfaces such as steel doors, lockers, toolboxes, industrial equipment, or vehicles with bare steel panels. For curved or irregular surfaces, magnetic hold may be limited and additional securing methods are recommended. For uneven surfaces, or small details or very large stencils, we recommend choosing custom Mylar film stencils or custom cut metal stencils .

Can I use magnetic stencils for spray paint, etching, or engraving?

Magnetic stencils are commonly used for spray painting and marking , but not suitable for engraving or chemical etching , since the magnetic material could interfere with equipment or be damaged by heat or chemicals, and does not hold up as well. For other decoration methods, we recommend choosing custom Mylar film stencils or custom cut metal stencils .

Magnet stencils will adhere great to dumpsters, metal frames or any magnetic surface. We don't recommend gaps less than 0.025" in the stencil cutouts, as this can tend to bleed or blend together.
