FAQs
What should I engrave on a multi-tool?
The engraving is entirely up to you. Depending on the intended recipient you can go with a nickname, name, special date, or design. For special occasions such as wedding gifts, consider our selection of custom multi-tools for groomsmen to spark your imagination.
How to sharpen engraved multi-tools?
You sharpen the blade of a multi-tool similarly to how you’d sharpen a knife. Choose a smaller sharpening stone that best matches your blade size and a finer grit for a sharper edge. Position the knife on a right angle and slide it outward until you are happy with the results.
Serrated edges will require a bit more work as you need to sharpen each edge individually using a sharpening steel. For those blades that are both fine and serrated, you'll need to use the right tool for each section of the blade.
Saws are the same as serrated blades. Some multi-tool brands will sell the blades separately for replacement, if yours doesn't though, use a small sharpening steel to get the job done.
For sharp wire cutters that need sharpening (Blunt cutters do NOT need to be sharpened) you will need a straight and narrow sharpening steel.
Is the engraving durable?
The short answer is Yes! Laser etching on multi-tools are a permanent, smooth mark. The one caveat though is that as the multitool is used over several years, the metal itself may wear down which means the engraving may grow to be less bold over time. But again - this takes years of wear to happen!
How to clean an engraved multi-tool?
Keeping up with maintenance on your multi-tool will ensure it continues to be reliable for years. With so many moving parts, it’s important to keep a tidy tool. When you notice any debris, a great way to remove it is via compressed air. If you find some stubborn debris or dirt, go ahead and use something small - like a tooth pick - to get it out. Once done, be sure to apply a small drop of oil to keep your moving parts properly lubricated.
