3 Tips on Giving a Great Gift that is Used and Appreciated for Years or Decades

We all want to give a great gift, and avoid that awkward “Ohh…… thank you….. so much…. This is….. great….” moment.

How do you avoid giving a gift that is TOSSED OUT, FORGOTTEN ABOUT or REGIFTED?

Start with these 3 tips. And if you don’t have time or energy to find the perfect gift, let us help. We are professional gift givers.

3 Tips on How to Give a Great Gift That is Actually Used

  1. Make it PERSONAL – Engrave it.
  2. Make it PRACTICAL – Something they will actually use or look at.
  3. Make it LUXURIOUS – Something they would not buy for themselves but would like to have

Make it PERSONAL – Engrave it.

You’d expect that from a laser engraving company, wouldn’t you? But it is not just our idea!

Think about it… what would you rather have, a gift with someone else’s logo on it…. or your initials?

They will remember who gave them the gift. Put THEIR name or initials on it for a bigger impact.

Make it PRACTICAL – Something they will actually use or look at.

This one is obvious, but there is more beneath the surface.

You have to get to know them at least a little – likes, dislikes, hobbies, interests, family situation, job, where they live…

And this is where many gift givers give up. Hang in there!

There are plenty of almost universally practical gifts that your gift recipients will all find valuable. You just need to listen for cues…

Cues during casual conversation are dropped all the time, we just have to learn to listen for them.

“… and next month I am going camping….. ”

“I love this weather!” “Oh really? What is your favorite thing to do when it is nice out?”

So LISTEN UP. And ask good questions. And take notes.

Make it LUXURIOUS – Something they would not buy for themselves but would like to have

Luxurious doesn’t have to be crazy expensive. But it probably will have a little bit of a price tag.

What would you rather give, 100 of something that most people throw away and it breaks? Or 10 of something that is turned into a family heirloom?

Think luxury ice cream scoops (we have that), the higher end model of something they might want instead of the base model, something with extra features, the more expensive pocket knife, the brand name version of something instead of the knock-off.

Let’s get out there and start gifting! Just like anything, you might miss the mark sometimes. That’s ok. Keep adjusting and keep gifting.
