Motivate with Incentives - Everyone Wins
One of the biggest mistakes people make with incentive programs is setting it up in such a way that only one or two people will take home prizes, and so the contests rarely work because people know they have no chance of winning. Make sure you setup a program so that all trade show booth staff or your employees will have a chance to win. You could do this by having a multi-level award system. This is easier than it sounds. But first, make sure you have your GOALS very clear, to both you and your staff. Goals both at the trade show exhibits and company goals should be very clear. The key is to not reward only the top one or two people, where everyone will know they hardly have a chance to win (except for maybe one or two top performers). Make sure everyone has a chance to win. When you create your contest, have one level that awards a number attainable by almost everyone. Have a second level that is a little bit higher, with a bit more requirements than the first. Then, for the next level, you would want only a few to be able to attain it to motivate them to excel. People tend to help others succeed when they beat their own personal goals. Two great ways to motivate are to give quality executive gifts and to have higher management recognize performance.
